Flashback Friday: Citizenfour

In 2013 the world learn about NSA spying scandal. The documentary Citizenfour (2014) details what happen during that time. Edward Snowden is the man that is responsible for releasing the documents to the world with the help of Laura Poitras, a documentary film maker, Glen Greenwald an investigated journalist, and Ewen MacAskill a reporter for The Guardian. The documentary is shot in real time so as everything is coming out you get to see first why he did it, and how it happened. You get to see when they first met Snowden, and what he is like after the information comes out.

Before watching this film i did not know much about the NSA scandal, but after watching this film it open my eyes to things that i could not believe. You get to see why Snowden did this, and how he did this. There are a few scenes in which they have to talk in code so that he can stay hidden. Most of the time, Snowden is worried about his girlfriend and how his actions have affected her.
If you think you already know what happened think again. This is one move that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

Chelsea Does….

After more than a year since her late night talk show Chelsea Lately, Chelsea Handler is back with a four part documentary series called Chelsea Does on Netflix. In the four part series Handles deals with Marriage, Silicon Valley, Racism and Drugs. Each more different than the other. This is completely different then her late night talk show, where everything was meant to be funny. We get to see a different side of Handler that we never seen before. A more serious side and insightful side also.

After watching the series, one of the ones, that I came away with the most information was from Chelsea Does Racism. Handler examines what do people from all different backgrounds think about other raciest. She also went down to the south, and talk to white people and black people to see what they each thought about slavery. They each had very different views on the matter, but surprising there were some who shared the same views. There were some people that thought that slavery was a good thing for everybody.

Then with Chelsea Does Drug was an another one I would recommend people to watch.  I learn how drugs can affect you mind without you even knowing it. I even learn about drugs that I never heard of before. One of them was ayahuasca. Handler and some friends flew down to Peru to take it, and after seeing what it does to people i got a little more curious.

The Marriage documentary was also good it examines Handler’s views on Marriage, and Silicon Valley examines her relation with technology in which she has none.

What Happened Miss Simone?

Nina Simone one of the world’s best jazz musician of our time. Who’s life was as soulful and tragic as her music. This Documentary What Happened Miss Simone tells the story of  Nina Simone’s life with rare interviews with Simone before her death, and her daughter and her ex husband.

The film shows how Simone got involved in the civil rights movement in the 1960’s, and how the music that she made during that time changed her career for good and bad. The film also tells the story about Simone fiery temper, and the abuse that she received and the abuse she gave out. The film highlights Simone’s moved from American to Africa, and why she vowed that she would never moved back. It also showed how mental illness played a big part of Simone’s life.

Before watching this movie i knew nothing about Simone. This is one documentary that left me wanting more and it answered a lot of questions that I did not know about Simone. If you are not a fan of Simone i would recommend that you watch this movie, or at least look at some of the film to get to know Miss Simone and to figure out what happened.

This film is worth watching.
