Movie Review: King Richard(2021)

The story of Venus and Serena Williams is one that I am familiar with. I have been a fan of tennis for a long time, and you must know the story of The Williams Sister’s. I also have known the story about their father teaching them. The film King Richard is about that story of their father teaching his girls how to play tennis.

The film I must say is one the best films that I have seen this year. Being that I am a fan of tennis there was nothing new for me to learn. I have watch countless documentaries about the sisters, and I replay their matches daily, that I feel like I came into the film with an upper hand. I must say that Will Smith is great as Richard Williams, I was able to see the man and not be confused by the actor trying to play the man.

This is a family film that aims to show that the man they all love is not a perfect man. He has a past just like everyone else, and that family is all that matters. This is a perfect film to sit around with your family and watch whenever you get the chance.

I have personally watched this film three times and it just keeps getting better. This is a story that everybody can get into and learn something about how one man came up with a plan to change a sport that is not willing to be change, and we are seeing the affects now.

I give this film 8 out of 10 stars.

Movie Review: Promising Young Woman(2020)

I recently just watch one of the best movies I have seen in a while. Promising Young Woman, a movie that just feels right to me and it is living in my mind, and I like that. I know this film just came out over a year ago, and yet it feels so timely to me. The story fits with what is happening with today society, and it tells the story perfectly in a unique way.

PYW, is a film about a girl dealing with the trauma that happen to her friend who was a promising young woman. She confronts men who try to rape women when they think she is drunk, and she deals with them.

Carey Mulligan is great as the lead. I believe everything that she is going through and she gives off emotions as being cold, and you can just feel it from her. This is a good thing. Emerald Fennell is the writer and director behind the film. The choices she makes with her direction makes the story feel smooth and everything flows great together. The music is a good key element to the film for me. It fits the mood and the tone for me, and it comes on at the right time.

There is something about this film that seems off, but it draws you in, and it takes you into the moment that the character is in. I cannot pinpoint it, but it is there.

The one thing I think is missing is just little bit more back story. We know something happen that night, but I would have liked more details about that. I would have liked more details about the boys. We do not meet the boys until close to the end of the film. This is a type of film that makes you want to be a writer. It makes me want to write more.

I would give this film a 7 out 10.

Movie Review: Crazy/Beautiful(2001)

This is a movie that I saw years ago. It must have been almost 18 years since I saw this film for the first time. I just remember wanting to see this because of the actors. The film Bring it on, had just came out and it was very popular, and this actress was in it. The actress is Kirsten Dunst, and I was just starting to understand what exactly movies and acting were. I was about 10 at the time so everything was new to me.

The movie Crazy/Beautiful, seemed like it would be a good movie. I think that it was a great film. I have not seen this film in few years, but it always catches my attention when I see something about it. The story is a classic teenage love story girl likes boy, parents hates boy and tries to break them up you know the drill.

This is an okay film; the acting is great, and the story is good. This is a film that is good if want to just sit on the couch and chill and get a little distracted with the world. This is a film that is mostly for young adults so take that at your own will. Kristen Dunst and Jay Hernandez are great in their roles.

I would give this film a solid 6 out of 10. It is okay, but there is a lot more that could have been told.

Movie Review: 20 Feet from Stardom(2013)

A lot of people do not know that I truly love to watch documentaries. I prefer them to film majority of the time. A documentary that I have watch at least 5 times is 20 Feet from Stardom, which is about background singers. This movie is about how people that are singing background for some of the biggest artist, and some who once wanted to be a lead, but they never made the jump to stardom. They have tried, but they just never became successful.

This hits home to me for many reasons, one of them being a person that has always wanted to tell stories, but never quite able to follow that dream. If you are a dreamer this will hit you hard, but you must continue chasing that dream.  It will happen, but it may not be they way you want it to be.

I would give this a documentary an 8 out of 10. That is high for me, and I think anybody that watch this documentary you would say the same.

Movie Review: What’s Eating Gilbert Grape(1993)

I have seen this film maybe three times, and each time I have learn something new. What’s Eating Gilbert Grape came out in 1993, and it still hold today. This is a film that I think sticks with you, at least that is what it did for me. To watch and see how everything is and how they are treated is heartbreaking. This is stuff that happens all the time, but people do not talk about it.

If you are looking for a movie to make you think I highly recommend that you watch this film. You will leave asking questions that you may not ever think to ask. The cast Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio are great. They show a range that is not like any other from people at there age. I would give this movie 7 out 10.
